Zirconium
Zirconium is fabricated at Chepetsk Mechanical Plant which is the only in Russia and one of the three largest plants in the world specializing in such production.
Chepetsk Mechanical Plant produces a broad range of zirconium and its alloy items, which are used in nuclear power; diode and aerospace machinery;
car, gas and oil refining industry; and shipbuilding.

| Fabrication of reactor control and protection system components |
|
CPS absorbers are required to control nuclear reaction, which occurs in the reactor, and ensure reactor safe operation. CPS absorbers are fabricated at SE Moscow Plant of Polymetals. The products are further used both in the reactors (VVER, RBMK, BN, Navy's propulsion reactors) and in FA when supplied to the enterprises of the TVEL Fuel Company (MSZ, NCCP).

Interesting facts about nuclear energy
Radioactive phenomenon was discovered by Antuan Becquerel in 1898. At first it was thought that the discovered radiation is emitted by an atom. But only later it became known that their source is a nucleus.
The first nuclear reactor was built in the USA in 1942 under the direction of Enrico Fermi. In the USSR the first reactor was commissioned 4 years later. The project was headed by Igor Kurchatov.
In 2000, nuclear power industry was the first to achieve the “pre-perestroika” level of production, as compared with other industries. Since 1998 Russia’s NPPs have provided annual growth of electricity generation in an average by 7 Bln kWh.
