Nuclear fuel for PWR and BWR reactors
Since 1994 JSC Mashinostroitelny Zavod has been cooperating with Framatome ANP (AREVA Corporation branch) in fabrication of fuel for PWR (Pressurized Water Reactor) and BWR (Boiling Water Reactor) designed by German and French experts.

JSC TVEL is charged with functions of overall coordination and management of activities under the excess weapons plutonium disposition program carried out in the framework of the Agreement between the Governments of the United States and the Russian Federation. Under the intergovernmental agreement concerning the development of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), Chepetsk Mechanical Plant continues developing superconductor productions.

Under the intergovernmental agreement concerning the development of the International Thermonuclear Experimental Reactor (ITER), Chepetsk Mechanical Plant continues developing superconductor productions. The plant is perfecting process operations for fabrication of superconductors and semi-finished products. .
MOX-fuel
JSC TVEL is charged with functions of overall coordination and management of activities under the excess weapons plutonium disposition program carried out in the framework of the Agreement between the Governments of the United States and the Russian Federation. The arrangement provides for step-by-step elimination of large quantity of weapon-grade plutonium through its reprocessing into MOX-fuel for nuclear power plants. JSC TVEL is focusing on justification of MOX-fuel efficiency in VVER-1000 reactors and setting up its production line at Siberian Chemical Combine.  Printable version

Interesting facts about nuclear energy
Radioactive phenomenon was discovered by Antuan Becquerel in 1898. At first it was thought that the discovered radiation is emitted by an atom. But only later it became known that their source is a nucleus.
The first nuclear reactor was built in the USA in 1942 under the direction of Enrico Fermi. In the USSR the first reactor was commissioned 4 years later. The project was headed by Igor Kurchatov.
In 2000, nuclear power industry was the first to achieve the “pre-perestroika” level of production, as compared with other industries. Since 1998 Russia’s NPPs have provided annual growth of electricity generation in an average by 7 Bln kWh.
