BN reactor fuel

In the 1970’s JSC Mashinostroitelny Zavod commenced serial production of BN-350 and BN-600 nuclear fuel. BN-600 fuel is characterized by increased enrichment by uranium-235 as compared with VVER. Due to liquid sodium coolant used in BN reactor corrosion resistance steel is used as a structural material for fuel rods and assemblies.

Investment policy
The TVEL Fuel Company’s investment policy is focused on the development of nuclear fuel cycle, expansion and strengthening of mineral and raw material inventory, production upgrade and improvement of nuclear fuel competitiveness in the world market.

One of the most important areas of the JSC TVEL investment policy is to ensure the development of mineral and raw material inventory and growth of uranium mining. JSC TVEL has developed Uranium-TVEL Program providing for specific steps to address the national goals in this area for the period of 2004-2010.

The priorities of the TVEL Fuel Company's investment policy are the construction of new production lines and reconstruction of existing production capacities, technical refurbishment and commissioning of new process cycles to provide the customers with competitive, qualitative and safe products.

JSC TVEL carries out investment projects in the framework of federal targeted programs (“Energy Low Consumption Economy”, subprogram “Safety and Development of Nuclear Energy in 2002-2005 and up to 2010”) and of branch programs of Federal Atomic Energy Agency.

The information system my SAP Business Suite is implemented in the JSC TVEL to improve efficiency of the corporate management at the Fuel Company’s enterprises.

Glossary

BWR reactor– boiling water reactor using water as a coolant.

NPP – Nuclear Power Plant, an electricity generating plant with one or more power units (reactors), turboalternators and other equipment.

SNF – spent nuclear fuel, irradiated nuclear fuel. After unloading from a reactor it is temporary stored in a pool at the NPP site, and then sent either for reprocessing or for disposal.
