JSC JV UKR TVS


Joint venture involving Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia (JSC JV UKR TVS) was established in 2001 to fabricate nuclear fuel to develop cooperative ties between the CIS countries’ nuclear fuel cycle players.

In May 2003 the trilateral intergovernmental agreement between Russia, Ukraine and Kazakhstan on rendering assistance in setting up and operating JSC JV UKR TVS was signed. Joint venture founders with equal share are JSC TVEL (Russia), JSC National Nuclear Company Kazatomprom (Kazakhstan) and National Property Fund (Ukraine).

The scope of JV UKR TVS activities covers production of the competitive nuclear fuel for Ukrainian NPPs with VVER-1000 reactors pursued through a joint effort of Ukraine, Kazakhstan and Russia.

Glossary

BWR reactor– boiling water reactor using water as a coolant.

NPP – Nuclear Power Plant, an electricity generating plant with one or more power units (reactors), turboalternators and other equipment.

SNF – spent nuclear fuel, irradiated nuclear fuel. After unloading from a reactor it is temporary stored in a pool at the NPP site, and then sent either for reprocessing or for disposal.
